Joni is a Licensed Professional Counselor and the Clinical Director of Kingwood Psychotherapy and Assessment Center. She has over 15 years of mental health related experience. Her work experience includes: working in therapeutic communities, nursing homes, emergency abuse and neglect shelters, churches, and academic settings. She has expensive experience in ADHD testing, diagnostic interviews, mental health testing, individual psychotherapy with adults, adolescents and children, crisis intervention and treatment planning. Her specialized skill set is in administering, scoring, and evaluating results for mental health assessments to aid in treatment planning for physicians, therapists, schools, clergy and/or the individual.
Work Experience
Joni began her career as a care provider for the Gulf Bend MHMR Center in Victoria, Texas where she worked full time for five years teaching individuals diagnosed with chronic, severe mental illness (such as Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder) how to manage their symptoms. She also provided self help skills to persons diagnosed with moderate to profound mental retardation. She served as a case manager for the Students In Need of Assistance Program (SNAP), which was a three year grant initiative awarded to Victoria Independent School District. As the case manager for Patti Welder Middle School, Joni led support groups for students including Grief Share and Self Esteem centered focus groups. She was a Licensed Professional Counselor for CrossRoads Youth and Family Services in Victoria, Texas where she provided family and individual therapy services. Joni relocated to Rockport, Texas where she completed her post graduate internship with Paul Hamilton, Ph.D. During her two year internship, she solely managed the Aransas Pass and Ingleside Independent School Districts providing full evaluation services for determining eligibility for special education services. While in private practice, Joni provided ADHD, personality, and cognitive evaluations to help aid in treatment planning. She also provided individual psychotherapy and supportive therapy services to adults diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety Disorder and Bipolar Disorder.
Joni relocated to the Houston area in 2007 where she has been self employed as an examiner providing mental health assessment services to nursing home residents, private practice clients and partial hospitalization programs. She also works with Marathon Psychology Group providing clinical evaluations to individuals applying for social security disability benefits, Lone Star College learning disability evaluations and visually impaired evaluations for pre-adolescence referred by the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services.
Educational Background
Joni graduated from Victoria College with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in 2000. She obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Houston-Victoria in 2001 and her Master of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston-Victoria in 2003. She has been licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners for Professional Counselors since 2006 and has been a board approved supervisor for counseling interns since 2008.

Joni presented several workshops for state wide conferences and college training courses such as: ADHD Diagnosis and Treatment Planning (TNOYS 23rd Annual Conference, Austin, Texas), Solution Focused Therapy (TNOYS 22nd Annual Conference, Austin, Texas, August 2005), Team Building, Building Self-Esteem in Children, and Essentials in Non-Profit Management (Victoria College, Victoria, Texas, October 2004).
Personal
Joni is a Kingwood, Texas resident and an active member of Kingwood Christian Church. She is married and has a young son. She loves spending time with her family and close friends, the outdoors, trying new recipes, gardening, reading and traveling.
